“Sia Pompei che Hangzhou sono citt\u00e0 nate dalla natura che si integrano con essa.” Con queste parole, Paolo Vincenzo Genovese, architetto e professore alla Zhejiang University, sintetizza il senso di un dialogo tra Hangzhou e Pompei, che dura da secoli tra culture geograficamente lontane ma da sempre affini. In una recente intervista rilasciata a China News Service, l\u2019esperto italiano ha spiegato come le rovine dell\u2019antica Roma e i paesaggi del Lago Occidentale condividano una stessa idea di bellezza e di rapporto con il tempo. Da qui prende forma una riflessione pi\u00f9 ampia sugli scambi culturali tra Italia e Cina, che questo approfondimento ripercorre attraverso la sua esperienza. Docente di Ingegneria Civile e Architettura presso l\u2019Universit\u00e0 del Zhejiang, Genovese vive e lavora in Cina da oltre vent\u2019anni. In questo periodo ha preso parte a numerosi progetti di restauro, contribuendo a unire approcci tradizionali e visioni contemporanee. Il suo punto di vista, maturato tra Oriente e Occidente, si riflette in un\u2019idea chiara. Le civilt\u00e0 dialogano attraverso le tracce che il tempo lascia nei luoghi. Un concetto che emerge con forza nel confronto tra Pompei e Hangzhou. Due siti riconosciuti dall\u2019UNESCO, entrambi espressione di un equilibrio profondo tra l\u2019uomo e l\u2019ambiente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La recente mostra al Museo del Lago Occidentale di Hangzhou, “Dialogue with Pompeii: Masterpieces from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples”, ha chiuso i battenti dopo aver esposto oltre 100 reperti napoletani. Inaugurata il 30 settembre 2025 e protrattasi fino all’8 marzo 2026, ha visto la partecipazione di autorit\u00e0 italiane come la Console Aggiunto Stefania Mortelliti. Genovese, durante il simposio, ha condiviso foto delle rovine pompeiane, notando somiglianze urbanistiche con la pianificazione cinese tradizionale: quattro assi principali, mura e porte. Guardando il Vesuvio dalle rovine, Genovese ha provato “un senso di reverenza verso la natura”, eco del paesaggio hangzhouano. Affreschi, sculture e ceramiche hanno immerso i visitatori nel fascino di Pompei, rafforzando legami tra West Lake Museum e Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli. Questo evento, celebrativo del ventennale del museo, ha promosso conservazione condivisa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Genovese's Journey: From Milan to China<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Paolo Vincenzo Genovese, a PhD from the Polytechnic University of Milan, arrived in China in 2004 as a full professor at Tianjin University, before continuing his career at Zhejiang University. Over the years, he has established himself as a leading expert in his field, focusing on bionic architecture, restoration, eco-villages, and the application of artificial intelligence to urban design. Among the most significant projects he has contributed to is the restoration of Emperor Puyi's residence in Tianjin. His experience in the region is particularly significant. Over the course of over twenty years, he has visited hundreds of traditional villages, part of a vast heritage that includes approximately 9,000 still existing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This work has allowed him to closely observe the protection and enhancement policies implemented, recognizing their commitment to preserving these local identities. Author of volumes such as "Harmony in Space: Introduction to Chinese Architecture," Genovese pursues a vision that integrates conservation and sustainable development. The main challenge today remains to find a balance between safeguarding cultural heritage and economic growth, without compromising the authenticity of the places. For this reason, his research on eco-villages and poverty reduction models has earned him recognition as a foreign expert at the national level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ruins of Pompeii and the landscapes of Hangzhou each tell, in their own way, the story of the passage of time and evoke emotions that transcend geographical boundaries. It is precisely this dialogue between humanity and nature that guides his work, which ranges from the restoration of historic sites to sustainable urban planning. In China, he has participated in projects aimed at enhancing traditional villages, viewing them not only as testimonies of the past, but as fundamental resources for the future. This approach places authenticity and cultural identity at the center. This intercultural harmony also contributes to strengthening relations between Italy and China, visible in academic collaborations and shared cultural initiatives. The message that emerges is simple yet profound: living the present with awareness and recognizing the value of beauty in everyday life, a lesson that spans eras and civilizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
