The story of Lun Wu, the little Aobai: the origins of the warrior panda

The Tale of Lun Wu

Do you know the story of panda Lun Wu (轮武)? He's nicknamed "Little Aobai," a young male panda born in May 2023 at the Atlanta Zoo in the United States. Son of panda Mei Lun (美轮) and twin to Lun Wen (轮文), Lun Wu quickly emerged as an energetic and determined cub, earning the nickname of the Lun family's warrior thanks to his lively and somewhat rebellious personality.

Lun Wu, Little Aobai: His Story

From the first days of his life, Lun Wu stood out for his larger size than his peers. And not only that. He also had slightly curly fur, reminiscent of the character Aobai from Stephen Chow's Royal Tramp, from which his nickname derives. Born into a family with an evolutionary lineage characterized by chubby faces, little Lun Wu fully embodied this trait. Due to his mother's insufficient milk production, Lun Wu was entrusted to a foster mother, Zhao Mei (昭美). She already had a puppy named Jin Dou (金豆) to nurse. The bonds between him and his foster mother and foster brother were very strong, making them an inseparable trio.

The character of the “Lounge King”

Lun Wu showed adventurousness from the very first moment. The cub immediately attempted to explore the world even before he could walk properly, moving across the grass like a veritable "moving carpet." Personality-wise, the little panda displays a particular distaste for returning to his enclosure, vigorously resisting transitions between play and rest, and giving his keepers a hard time. Finally, Lun Wu earned the title "Lounge King" for his passion for relaxing on a wooden chair in the enclosure, where he enjoys eating bamboo while striking carefree, relaxed poses that attract the affection and admiration of visitors.
