Story of Bao Bao

Bao Bao has been enthusiastically welcomed since her birth at the National Zoo in Washington. On December 1, 2013, celebrations for her first 100 days included a naming ceremony, which means "precious treasure." The ceremony received warm messages from prominent figures such as Peng Liyuan and Michelle Obama. In January 2014, Bao Bao made her first public appearance, attracting crowds of visitors. An incident in December 2014, when she accidentally touched an electric fence, led her to seek refuge in a tree, where her mother comforted her.

In March 2015, she began her independence from Mei Xiang, evolving into an independent young panda. On February 21, 2017, Bao Bao left the United States for the Giant Panda Conservation Center in China, arriving in Dujiangyan the following day. Her first public event in China took place on March 24, 2017. In 2018, she moved to the Wolong Shenshuping Base, part of the Giant Panda Garden. Bao Bao has made an important contribution to giant panda reproduction, achieving significant milestones. In July 2020, she gave birth to female panda Dun Dun and in August 2021 to male panda twins, Bao Li and Bao Yuan, consolidating her role in the conservation of the species.
